Medical Colics

Included are the examinations, tests, and imaging required to treat, assess prognosis and determine recommendations.

Heart rate, respiratory rate, gut sounds, mucous membrane characterizations, rectal palpation and blood work all contribute to the initial assessment.

Treatment may consist of pain controlling medications, smooth muscle relaxants to help gas pass, electrolytes, mineral oil via nasogatric intubation and cecal decompression as appropriate.
